How We Research This Guide
How Kotor Travel is put together: what our sources are, what the prices mean, why there are no star ratings, and what we do not claim. Desk research, stated plainly.
Last updated: September 2026
Kotor Travel is a research guide, not a travel diary. This page says exactly what that means, because a reader deciding whether to trust a price or a journey time deserves to know where it came from.
What this site is
Every page here is built from sources that can be checked:
- Operator listings — what tours actually include, what they cost, how long they run, and what is quietly excluded. Where a listing and a description disagree, the listing wins.
- Published timetables and posted fares — bus routes, ferry crossings, airport transfers, entrance fees.
- Official and municipal sources — opening hours, cruise schedules, park and heritage-site information.
- The pattern across large numbers of traveller reports — not any single review, but what recurs often enough to be a reliable signal: the queue that always forms, the stop that always disappoints, the weather that always cancels.
Where those sources conflict, the page says so rather than picking the tidier answer.
What this site is not
We do not claim to have taken every tour we assess, and there is no personal travelogue here. You will not find “the best decision we made on our trip”, because that would be an invention, and one invented sentence makes every real number on the page worth less.
There are no star ratings. Scoring a tour four out of five implies somebody sat on the boat with a clipboard. Instead each assessment says what the day includes, what it costs against booking the pieces yourself, who it suits, and where it falls short — judgements that follow from the research and can be argued with on the evidence.
There is no named author persona. Inventing a fictional local expert is common in this corner of the web. It is also the easiest kind of trust to fake, so we would rather earn yours by showing the method.
What the numbers mean
Prices and journey times are typical ranges for the season named, not quotes. Montenegro’s coastal prices move sharply between May and August, and a border queue can add an hour to any drive from Croatia. A page that gave you a single confident figure would be easier to read and less useful.
Every page carries the month it was last reviewed, and that date is machine-readable in the page’s structured data as well as printed under the title. If a page has not been checked recently, you can see that.
How this is funded, and what that does not buy
Some links here earn a commission — the full detail is on our affiliate disclosure. Two consequences worth stating plainly:
- A commission has never moved a verdict. Several pages here tell you not to book the thing they link to: that the €4 bus makes the tour unnecessary, that the €5 boat at Perast cannot be booked online at all, that the Old Town is small enough to self-guide for free.
- Merchants cannot buy placement. Nobody pays to appear on this site, and no operator has been given review approval or advance sight of a page.
Corrections
Prices change, operators fold, timetables move. If something here is wrong, tell us and it gets fixed: contact@kotortravel.com. Corrections are the cheapest way for a research guide to stay worth reading.
